Thames & Kosmos’ original model fuel cell car demonstrates the simplicity and efficiency of hydrogen technology in a tangible, hands-on way. With this kit, you can assemble a model car that runs on water! The fuel cell car in this kit uses a unique reversible fuel cell that splits water into hydrogen and oxygen gas using electric current from a battery pack. These gases are stored in clear tanks located at the back of the vehicle. When the battery pack is removed, and the electric motor is connected to the fuel cell module, the hydrogen and oxygen combine back together again into water, releasing electricity in the process. The motor runs on this electric current, propelling the car forward. Because hydrogen, oxygen, and water are safe and clean chemicals, this type of fuel cell is environmentally friendly and does not produce hazardous emissions. It takes approximately five minutes to split enough water to fill the tanks with hydrogen and oxygen gas, and the car runs for about 5 to 10 minutes on full tanks.
